Washington, February 5: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited the United States from February 2 to 4. During his trip, he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basset.
U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, welcomed the recent discussions between the leaders of both nations and shared insights about Washington’s readiness to enhance relations with New Delhi.
Ambassador Gore posted images from the meetings with EAM Jaishankar, Secretary Rubio, and Secretary Basset, stating, “Conversations are happening at the highest levels. The U.S. is prepared to further advance this relationship. Unlimited potential.”
On Wednesday, EAM Jaishankar participated in the Critical Minerals Ministerial Meeting convened by Marco Rubio, expressing India’s support for international cooperation to mitigate risks in the critical minerals supply chain.
EAM Jaishankar held separate meetings with Rubio and Basset. Following these discussions, he expressed his satisfaction on social media, stating, “I was pleased to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio this afternoon. It was a significant conversation covering our bilateral cooperation agenda, regional, and global issues.”
He highlighted that the talks with Rubio encompassed several crucial aspects of India-U.S. relations. EAM Jaishankar noted, “The strategic partnership between India and the U.S. included discussions on trade, energy, nuclear, defense, critical minerals, and technology.”
The Foreign Minister added, “We agreed to hold meetings soon to advance our shared interests.” Additionally, in a separate post, EAM Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting with Secretary Basset, stating, “I was glad to meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basset in Washington, D.C. We discussed advancing the India-U.S. economic partnership and strategic cooperation.”
