India and US Finalize Promising Trade Deal

Surat, February 8: A significant trade deal has been established between India and the United States. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described this agreement as excellent news for both nations, stating that a framework for an interim trade agreement has been reached. The Director of Surat APMC expressed his happiness regarding the deal in a recent conversation.

The agriculture sector is particularly optimistic about the new trade deal. Babu Bhai Sheikh, the Director of Surat APMC, noted that an agricultural agreement has been made with the USA, emphasizing that Prime Minister Modi has prioritized the country’s development in this negotiation. Notably, agriculture and dairy farming have been excluded from the deal.

Sheikh highlighted that this agreement will greatly benefit farmers in Gujarat, especially in South Gujarat, where fruits like mangoes, chickoos, papayas, and bananas are grown. These products will not face tariffs, which will enhance farmers’ profits.

He also mentioned that both farmers and traders will gain from this deal. The conditions set for imports, such as restrictions on sour fruits, potatoes, peas, beans, and frozen vegetables, will further benefit local farmers by limiting imports while maintaining zero tariffs on exports.

Sheikh remarked that this is a commendable step towards fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ incomes. The deal will also facilitate direct trade with the USA, allowing vegetables like papdi and eggplants to be exported without tariffs. This is expected to be highly advantageous for the country.

He pointed out that the imposition of tariffs had previously led to a 70% decline in their BUSINESS. However, this new agreement is anticipated to provide substantial benefits to both traders and farmers alike.
