Tamil Nadus Final Voter List to Be Released on February 17

Chennai, February 8: The Election Commission of India has announced that the final voter list for Tamil Nadu will be officially published on February 17, as scheduled. This list will be accessible at district collector offices, municipal offices, polling stations, and the official website of the Election Commission.

As part of a special intensive revision process under the SIR procedure, officials conducted a detailed verification campaign of the voter list across the state. The draft voter list was released on December 19 last year, inviting feedback and new applications from the public. Citizens were given until Monday to add, correct, or modify their entries.

The response has been substantial, with nearly 3.475 million applications submitted statewide. These include requests for new registrations, address changes, and updates to personal details. Election officials stated that booth-level officers (BLOs) are actively engaged in verifying applications at the grassroots level.

To ensure that only eligible voters are included, door-to-door checks, document inspections, and field visits were conducted. According to the commission, approximately 90 percent of the applications have already been reviewed, with the remaining verifications expected to be completed by Tuesday. Once the process is finalized, the updated and final voter list will be made public on February 17.

The Election Commission has also taken steps to issue voter identification numbers to new voters. The printing of Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) is currently underway. Starting February 17, these voter ID cards will be sent directly to applicants’ homes via express post, ensuring timely delivery and added convenience.

Officials have indicated that this special intensive revision reflects the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and inclusive Elections by maintaining an accurate and updated voter database.
