Washington, February 4: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he had a “very excellent” and comprehensive conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The discussion covered crucial topics including trade, security, global politics, and energy, signaling a positive direction for U.S.-China relations over the next three years.
According to Trump, the dialogue was “long and in-depth,” addressing issues such as trade, military cooperation, his proposed visit to China in April, Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine war, the situation in Iran, and energy collaboration between the two nations.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “I just completed a fantastic phone conversation with President Xi of China. It was a long and detailed discussion covering many important subjects.”
Focusing on economic matters, Trump highlighted discussions about China’s purchases of energy and agricultural products from the U.S. He noted that both leaders talked about “China’s purchase of oil and gas from America,” as well as additional purchases of American agricultural products.
Trump mentioned that China is considering increasing its soybean purchases to 20 million tons for the current season and has committed to buying 25 million tons for the next season.
Additionally, the conversation touched on aviation and manufacturing supply chains. Trump reported that discussions included “the delivery of aircraft engines” and described all topics as “extremely positive.”
He also emphasized the strength of his personal relationship with President Xi, stating, “My relationship with China and my personal relationship with President Xi is very good, and we both understand how important it is to maintain it.”
Expressing optimism for the future, Trump asserted that ongoing dialogue with Beijing would yield positive outcomes. He stated, “I believe we will see many positive results related to President Xi and the People’s Republic of China during the next three years of my presidency.”
While the White House did not issue a separate official statement regarding the conversation, Trump’s remarks suggest that Washington and Beijing remain in contact at the highest levels on strategic, economic, and security issues.
In his post, Trump also mentioned his upcoming April visit to China, expressing excitement about the trip, which is seen as significant for U.S.-China diplomacy during his current term.
The discussion included major global issues such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the current situation in Iran, where both the U.S. and China play crucial international roles.
It is noteworthy that U.S.-China relations have long been characterized by a mix of cooperation and competition.
