New Delhi, February 4: Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed confidence in the Indian team’s prospects for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The World Cup-winning captain believes that Team India possesses the right mix of experience, skill, and balance.
Dhoni emphasized that the team’s strength lies in how well players handle pressure situations and how clearly their roles are defined. Players are always prepared for matches, whether batting or bowling, giving India a significant edge over its competitors.
“This is one of the most dangerous teams,” Dhoni stated. “You know, the Indian players must have already started their batting or bowling practice, but what does a good team require? It has everything. They have experience. Especially in this format, experience is crucial. They have played under pressure. Every player in the team has been in their roles for quite some time.”
While Dhoni remains optimistic, he cautioned that dew can disrupt even the most carefully crafted plans in white-ball cricket. According to him, dew can significantly affect conditions, making toss decisions critical and potentially giving unfair advantages in matches.
“What worries me? I hate dew. Dew changes many things. So, when I played, one thing that truly scared me was dew. If we play ten matches against some of the best teams, we would emerge victorious most of the time if conditions remain neutral,” Dhoni added.
The former captain of Chennai Super Kings also noted that T20 cricket is unpredictable, where a poor performance from one team or an outstanding display from the opposition can completely alter the outcome.
“The problem arises when some of your players do not perform well, and an opposing player has a fantastic game. This can happen in T20 groups. So, this is the time when prayers are needed. You know, no one should get injured. Everyone assigned roles must fulfill their responsibilities for the team,” he said.
