Bihar to Open Degree Colleges in 213 Blocks by July 2026

Patna, February 5: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a significant announcement on Wednesday, stating that his government will establish degree colleges in 213 blocks across the state, with classes set to commence in July 2026.

To ensure timely implementation, he has directed relevant officials to take necessary actions.

In a written statement, the Chief Minister explained that this decision is part of the “Advanced Education – Bright Future” initiative under the Seven Resolutions-3 program.

Kumar noted, “Under the fourth point of Seven Resolutions-3, we have decided to open degree colleges in all blocks of the state to ensure accessible higher education, especially for girls. Currently, out of Bihar’s 534 blocks, 213 do not have any affiliated or component degree colleges. In the first phase, degree colleges will be established in these 213 blocks, with classes starting by July 2026.”

The Chief Minister also announced that the state government has decided to develop 55 older and prestigious educational institutions as centers of excellence.

He mentioned that these institutions were selected to provide employment-oriented and quality higher education. A systematic approach is being taken for their enhancement, with directives to consult experienced teachers and students for their suggestions before proceeding.

Kumar emphasized that opening degree colleges in each block will significantly improve access to higher education for girls, while upgrading historical institutions will help restore their academic reputation and equip youth with job-oriented skills.

He further stated that these initiatives will play a crucial role in the overall development of the state.

The Seven Resolutions-3 initiative was launched immediately after Nitish Kumar formed the government following the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
