Dhaka, February 6: The interim government of Bangladesh has decided to conduct an investigation into the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the radical group Inquilab Mancha, with the assistance of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. A formal proposal will be sent regarding this matter.
This announcement was made by Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, through a social media post.
The decision comes at a time when Inquilab Mancha has initiated protests outside the official residence of the Chief Advisor, ‘Jamuna’, demanding a fair investigation into Hadi’s murder.
According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, the protests began on Thursday evening and included members such as Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, Fatima Tasneem Juma, Hadi’s wife, and several supporters.
Addressing the protest, Abdullah Al Jaber stated that while the organization could mobilize a large crowd, they chose to remain with Hadi’s wife until they receive a clear assurance from the Chief Advisor. He emphasized that the protest would not end without a full guarantee of justice.
During the protest, Inquilab Mancha posted on social media, “We are surrounded by police and other forces wielding batons. Our final word is that we will not leave until Hadi’s murder is investigated fairly under UN leadership, even if it costs us our lives.”
It is noteworthy that last month, Bangladeshi police classified Hadi’s murder as politically motivated. Investigative agencies claim that the conspiracy for this attack was orchestrated in Singapore.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch has filed a charge sheet against 17 accused individuals in a metropolitan court in Dhaka regarding this case.
Sharif Osman Hadi, 32, was the spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha and gained national attention during the mass movements in July-August 2024, which led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. He was also a parliamentary candidate for the elections scheduled on February 12.
Hadi was accused of promoting Islamist and anti-India ideologies in Bangladesh. He was shot in the head by motorcycle-borne assailants while traveling by rickshaw on December 12, 2025. Severely injured, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 18, 2025.
