Ranchi, February 6: Anurag Sarawagi, a well-known builder and businessman in Ranchi, tragically took his own life by jumping from the sixth floor of his flat in the Blair Apartments on Main Road. This incident has not only shocked the local community but has also sent waves of grief through the capital’s business sector.
Preliminary reports indicate that Sarawagi jumped from his apartment balcony around 11 PM on Thursday night. He died instantly due to the fall. Hearing the loud noise, security personnel and local residents rushed to the scene, where they found his body. The police were immediately notified.
It is reported that Sarawagi was home alone that night, as his wife and two children were visiting relatives in Tamil Nadu. Some residents of the apartment informed the police that he was speaking loudly on his mobile phone late at night. Upon receiving the information, police from Hindpiri police station arrived at the scene.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the City SP and senior police officials, including the Kotwali DSP, also reached the location. The police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem at RIMS. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to collect evidence from the scene. Sarawagi’s mobile phone was shattered due to the fall, but police managed to recover it.
In another flat of the same apartment, Sarawagi’s elderly parents and a maid reside. The maid reported that he had gone to the sixth floor with a cigarette and lighter, after which News of his fall emerged. Anurag Sarawagi was the managing partner of the renowned builder group Jokhiram-Durgadatt, which has developed significant commercial projects in Ranchi, including JD High Street Mall and JD Cinemas.
Additionally, his group has developed several premium properties, including JD Villa in Goa. He was regarded as one of the city’s successful and established entrepreneurs. Currently, the police are investigating the reasons behind the suicide. There has been no official confirmation regarding the recovery of a suicide note.
Authorities are questioning the deceased’s family, friends, and employees to determine if he was facing any financial pressures, business losses, family disputes, or mental health issues. They are also reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment complex to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. The police stated that the situation will become clearer once the post-mortem report and investigation findings are available.
