Washington, February 4: The recent trade agreement between the United States and India is being hailed as a diplomatic victory for India. During a media briefing, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt discussed the U.S.-India agreement and highlighted the strong relationship between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Levitt noted that with the announcement of the agreement, President Trump stated that India would purchase oil from Venezuela instead of Russia. However, there has been no official response from India regarding this claim. Meanwhile, Russia has indicated that it has not received any information from India on this matter.
The press secretary asserted that Prime Minister Modi has agreed to stop purchasing oil from Russia and to buy oil from the U.S. and possibly Venezuela. She stated, “Clearly, our manufacturing sector is something the President cares deeply about. That’s why he is so committed to his tariff policy, as you all saw yesterday when the President announced another significant trade agreement with India. He spoke directly with Prime Minister Modi. They have a very good relationship.”
Levitt emphasized that Trump particularly enjoys his relationship with PM Modi, saying, “I know that President Trump especially values his relationship with the Prime Minister and India.”
She further added, “India has not only promised to stop buying Russian oil but has also committed to purchasing oil from the U.S., which we know will directly benefit the U.S. and American people. Additionally, PM Modi has pledged $500 billion in investments in the U.S., including in transportation, energy, and agricultural products. This is another significant agreement thanks to the President.”
Levitt concluded by stating, “The President’s tariff policy and economic agenda are working. When you combine tariffs with revitalizing American manufacturing and investment, the President has played a significant role in attracting investment from countries and companies worldwide, creating jobs. We have seen a surge in construction jobs over the past few months.”
