New Delhi, February 7: The National Capital Region (NCR) is currently experiencing significant weather fluctuations due to strong surface winds. Residents are feeling a biting chill in the mornings and evenings, while daytime temperatures are slightly above normal due to bright sunshine and winds.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about strong surface winds during the day. According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s website, the maximum temperature recorded on February 7 was 24 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels ranged between 95% and 65%.
On February 8, light fog is expected in the morning, with temperatures forecasted to be between 23 and 10 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, moderate fog is anticipated on February 9, with minimum temperatures potentially dropping to 9 degrees Celsius. The impact of strong winds is also affecting air quality. Several areas in Delhi have recorded Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in the orange and yellow zones.
In Anand Vihar, the AQI reached 260, while Ashok Vihar recorded 249, Bawana 263, Chandni Chowk 232, Rohini 259, Shadipur 273, Vivek Vihar 264, and Wazirpur 253, all falling into the poor category.
Conversely, some areas have shown relatively better conditions. In Ayanagar, the AQI was 151, CRRI Mathura Road recorded 157, and Sri Aurobindo Marg noted 140, all classified as moderate.
Looking at other NCR cities, in Ghaziabad, Loni recorded an AQI of 275, Indirapuram 252, Vasundhara 246, and Sanjay Nagar 230. In Noida, Sector 125 had an AQI of 215, Sector 62 recorded 168, Sector 1 noted 204, and Sector 116 had 182.
Experts suggest that the strong winds are dispersing pollutant particles, leading to a slight improvement in air quality. However, residents are advised to remain cautious due to the cold and chill during the morning and night. The Meteorological Department has recommended that elderly individuals, children, and those with respiratory issues take precautions when going outside in the early morning and evening hours.
