Beijing, February 7: The China-Uruguay Trade and investment cooperation Forum was recently held, highlighting significant developments in bilateral relations. Notably, guests from South America downloaded the Chinese social media app WeChat, facilitating easier communication with their Chinese counterparts.
China has been Uruguay’s largest trading partner for several years. Currently, the President of Uruguay is on a visit to China, accompanied by a large trade delegation. Members of this delegation participated in the forum, expressing strong confidence in expanding into the Chinese market.
Eduardo Yurgal, Chairman of the board of the renowned Uruguayan meat processing company, Inspección San Jacinto, stated that the Chinese market accounts for 30 to 35 percent of their BUSINESS. He emphasized their ambitious goal for this year, citing the current market conditions and collaboration opportunities. Their meat products have already entered major Chinese cities like Shanghai and Tianjin, indicating vast potential in the Chinese market.
Lotaro Perez, head of Uruguay’s National Technology Laboratory, mentioned that this visit aims to establish cooperative relationships with various scientific and technological zones in China. They visited a Chinese scientific and technological park, identifying numerous collaboration opportunities. They also connected with several leading Chinese enterprises, believing both sides can finalize cooperation agreements and initiate various joint projects. Additionally, they attended a promotion event for the Hainan Free Trade Port, which they view as a valuable opportunity for Uruguayan investors, describing it as an ideal place for business.
