New Delhi, February 9: Frequent anger, irritability, and stress are not solely dependent on external circumstances. These symptoms may indicate an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which governs our emotional responses. According to Ayurveda, an imbalance in Pitta can weaken the body internally and lead to mental instability, causing both physical and emotional unrest.
Ayurveda places significant importance on Pitta dosha, as its effects are evident not only physically but also mentally. An imbalance can lead to feelings of anger, irritability, restlessness, heartburn, and mental unrest. Individuals may feel an urge to cry for no apparent reason, with increased restlessness often occurring in the evening. Ayurveda teaches that Pitta should not be suppressed; instead, it should be calmed through a balanced routine and cooling practices.
Several methods are recommended in Ayurveda to soothe and balance Pitta. The first is Pitta-pacifying beverages, which can be made by mixing cumin, fennel, ginger, and grape juice. These drinks help alleviate heartburn and soothe gastric irritation. The second method involves Pitta-pacifying herbs, such as Avipattikar Churna, which aids in calming the mind and body while managing stress and restlessness. It can be taken at any time with warm water, but it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional before use.
The third method is Ghee Nasya, which involves placing a few drops of pure ghee into the nostrils at night. This practice helps calm the brain. If there are difficulties with nasal application, ghee can also be applied inside the nostrils using fingers. Additionally, practicing Abhyanga, or oil massage, can be beneficial for both mind and body. This technique helps soothe bodily heat and alleviates irritation and itching. Using coconut and Bhringraj oil on the scalp and soles can provide relief.
Incorporating herbal tea into the diet can also help calm Pitta. This tea can be prepared by boiling chamomile, basil, and rose together in water, providing immense peace of mind.
