
Faridabad, February 8: In a tragic incident at the Surajkund Mela in Haryana, police arrested two individuals, including the owner of the ride-operating company, on Sunday for negligence in ensuring safety.
Haryana Minister Rajesh Nagar visited the site on Sunday to meet with attendees and gather information about the incident. He inspected the area and instructed officials present to maintain vigilance.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar reported that the incident occurred between 6:00 and 6:15 PM. At least 12-13 people were on the roller ride when a part of it suddenly broke. Immediately after the ride collapsed, an inspector, two women, an ASI, a soldier, and a home guard climbed onto the ride to rescue children. During their efforts, another part of the ride also broke.
The inspector sustained severe injuries while attempting the rescue and was later pronounced dead by doctors. Following the incident, the ride has been closed, and an FIR has been filed against three individuals for negligence. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation and will submit a report afterward.
During the investigation, police arrested Mohammad Shakeer, a resident of Toka Nangla village in Sirmaur district, who was responsible for operating the rides at the fair, and Nitesh from Dharmapuri in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are also examining the roles of other individuals involved in the incident.
Police stated that Inspector Jagdish Prasad made commendable efforts to save the injured during his duty, and his death is an irreparable loss to the police department. The department will provide all possible financial assistance to his family and offer employment to a qualified family member under the compassionate appointment policy.
DGP Ajay Singhal visited Civil Hospital and Supreme Hospital in Faridabad to assess the condition of the injured. According to police spokespersons, 12 individuals were injured in the incident, including female Assistant Sub-Inspector Neelam, female constable Sharmila, and others.
Five of the injured have been discharged from the hospital, while the remaining individuals are reported to be in stable condition and receiving advanced medical care.
