ST Hasan Defends Mamata Banerjee, Criticizes Election Commissions Allegiance to BJP

Moradabad, February 5: ST Hasan, a leader of the Samajwadi Party and former MP, has come out in support of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s recent remarks. He criticized the Election Commission and the central government, claiming that the Commission is deviating from its constitutional role and appears to be acting as a political wing of the BJP.

Hasan stated, “Mamata Banerjee should assert that the Election Commission has become a wing of the BJP, instead of merely being a ‘WhatsApp Commission’.” This comment follows Banerjee’s own labeling of the Election Commission as a “WhatsApp Commission” earlier in the week.

The SP leader accused the Election Commission of removing voters’ names through the SIR process. He sarcastically questioned the purpose of holding elections if everything is predetermined, suggesting that it would be more straightforward to simply declare who the Prime Minister and Chief Minister will be, akin to a dictatorship.

Responding to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma‘s controversial remarks regarding the ‘Miya’ community, Hasan expressed concern. He noted that allegations have been made against the ‘Miya’ community, claiming they are Bangladeshi. He criticized Sarma’s statement about charging only four rupees for a five-rupee fare in rickshaws operated by ‘Miya’ individuals, calling it highly unethical. Hasan raised the question of why no action has been taken against the Chief Minister for such openly discriminatory remarks.

Additionally, Hasan addressed the FIR filed against Mohammad Deepak in connection with a shopkeeper’s case in Uttarakhand. He praised Deepak, saying, “We salute Deepak and pray to Allah that at least 20 such lights should shine in every city.” He emphasized that if this happens, the atmosphere in the country will improve, filled with love and brotherhood.

Hasan described Deepak as a true patriot, noting that people from all communities—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians—appreciate his efforts. He lamented the unfortunate FIR against him despite this widespread support.
