Royal Challengers Bangalore Clinches Womens Premier League Title

New Delhi, February 6: The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has secured the title of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 by defeating the Delhi Capitals by six wickets. Thanks to outstanding performances from Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Wareham, RCB has claimed its second WPL championship.

In this match, RCB set a new record by successfully chasing the highest target to date. Previously, RCB had won the championship in 2024. With this victory, RCB has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first franchise to hold both the IPL and WPL trophies simultaneously.

On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals faced yet another defeat in the finals. This marks the fourth time the Delhi team has reached the finals but failed to secure the trophy. The loss has been particularly painful for the Delhi Capitals, making them the second women’s franchise cricket team to lose four finals, a record previously held by the Brisbane Heat.

In the final match, RCB chased down a target of 204 runs against the Delhi Capitals. This victory marks the second successful chase of over 200 runs in WPL history and is the largest run chase to date. In women’s T20 cricket, it stands as the second-largest successful run chase, surpassed only by the West Indies’ chase of 213 runs against Australia in 2023.

With this win, RCB has broken its own record. Last season, on the same ground, RCB chased down 202 runs against the Gujarat Giants. Furthermore, this chase is now the largest successful run chase in any IPL or WPL final. The previous record was held by the Kolkata Knight Riders, who chased 200 runs against the Punjab Kings in the 2024 IPL final.

Additionally, a historic achievement has been made. For the first time in any women’s T20 cricket final, whether in league or international matches, a target of over 175 runs has been successfully chased.
