Pappu Yadav Arrested in Patna Amid Political Controversy

Patna, February 7: Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, was arrested late Friday night at his residence in Mandiri, Patna. Yadav had arrived in Patna earlier that evening.

According to police reports, he was apprehended in connection with a 1995 case linked to the Gardanibagh police station. Initially registered under the old Indian Penal Code, the case is now being prosecuted under the Indian Justice Code. The charges against the MP include sections 419, 420, 468, 448, 506, and 120B related to criminal offenses.

It has been reported that court hearings were ongoing, but the MP had been consistently absent. Bhanu Pratap Singh, the City SP of Patna, stated, “The MP has been taken to the hospital for a medical examination, after which he will be brought to the police station.”

Pappu Yadav claimed that his arrest was politically motivated and linked to his advocacy for justice following the death of a NEET student. He expressed his sentiments on the social networking site X, stating, “Great job, Bihar Police. We fought for justice for the NEET student, and now Bihar Police is in pain. They came to arrest me at my Patna residence, but Pappu Yadav will neither bow nor remain silent. We will expose the misdeeds of the dishonest. Whether you send me to jail or hang me, Pappu will not stop.”

It is expected that he will be presented in court on Saturday after completing the medical procedures. This arrest has heightened the political climate in Bihar, with his supporters labeling it as an act of political pressure.

Notably, Yadav has been vocal in questioning the police administration and government regarding the death of a student at a Patna hostel. His supporters argue that given his consistent presence before the administration, the timing of his midnight arrest raises questions.
