New Delhi, February 5: Congress leader Udit Raj has criticized the suspension of eight opposition MPs, stating that they are being denied the opportunity to speak in Parliament.
Raj highlighted the lack of restraint within the BJP, noting that Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to speak for 45-46 minutes. He mentioned that Gandhi only wanted to make five statements, which would take less than a minute.
Udit Raj pointed out that nearly a hundred MPs have faced suspension in the past, indicating a systematic effort to silence the opposition. He condemned the suspensions as unjust, warning that democracy and national security are at risk, and the opposition’s position has significantly weakened.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed concern over the current situation, stating that the opposition leader was initially denied the chance to speak. She criticized the repeated adjournments of the House and noted that Prime Minister Modi did not engage in the discussion on the thank-you motion. Chaturvedi emphasized that both sides must recognize their responsibilities, as the public is suffering from this standoff. She described the day as a tragic one in the history of the House.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman commented on the altercation between Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, accusing the BJP of creating tension. He insisted that the incident should not be labeled along caste or religious lines.
Congress leader Bhai Jagatap defended Rahul Gandhi, asserting that he spoke the truth. He noted that Ravneet Singh Bittu gained political recognition through the Congress party, having been elected three times on its ticket. Jagatap remarked that their relationship was once amicable, and if Gandhi referred to Bittu as a “traitor,” it was within the context of their political discourse.
