Indian Farmers Interests Protected in US Trade Deal, Says Shivraj Singh Chouhan

New Delhi, February 5: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the recent trade agreement between India and the United States. He described the deal as a unique example of diplomacy, development, and respect, emphasizing that the interests of Indian Farmers have been thoroughly safeguarded.

In an interview with a news agency, Chouhan stated, “Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has clarified the details of the agreement in Parliament. This trade deal is an unparalleled example of diplomacy, development, and respect. As the Agriculture Minister, I can responsibly assure that the interests of Indian farmers are completely secure. This agreement has taken full account of our farmers, especially concerning grains, fruits, and millets. No market has been opened for these products. Our farmers are entirely safe.”

He noted that reduced tariffs would benefit farmers, citing that rice exports reached ₹63,000 crore in the first year and are expected to increase. The export of rice and textiles will rise, with Chouhan highlighting the significant role of the textile sector in exports, which will also benefit cotton farmers.

Chouhan reiterated that this trade agreement is in the best interest of India and its farmers, ensuring their complete protection.

Responding to opposition allegations, Chouhan criticized the Congress party, labeling it a “shop of lies.” He accused them of attempting to spread chaos through rumors, stating that Congress has never won in the field and their continuous defeats reflect their frustration and resentment. “They only see the ladder to power, not the boundaries of their fields,” he remarked.

Chouhan further condemned the behavior of Congress members, claiming they have violated democratic norms and turned Parliament into a chaotic scene. He expressed concern over the treatment of Prime Minister Modi and Commerce Minister Goyal, who have been obstructed from speaking in Parliament.
