Patna, February 6: A significant uproar occurred outside the Bihar Legislative Council on Friday, led by former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and opposition leaders who staged a vigorous protest over farmers’ issues. The atmosphere outside the council was tense during the demonstration.
The opposition alleges that the Bihar government has failed to take concrete steps for the welfare of farmers. They claim the government is limited to announcements under the agricultural roadmap, with no tangible benefits reaching farmers on the ground. Opposition leaders demanded immediate relief and accountability for farmers as they protested outside the assembly premises.
Speaking to the media, Rabri Devi launched a sharp attack on the Nitish government. She accused the administration of coming to power through illegitimate means despite losing public support. She asserted that the opposition had received a mandate for a majority but that the government was formed through electoral fraud.
Rabri Devi stated, “We won the elections. They formed the government through theft. We received nearly 19 million votes; how many did they get? Not even half.” Citing political events in other states, she claimed that legislators in Maharashtra and Haryana were allegedly bought for 50-60 crores. She further alleged that similar dishonesty occurred in Bihar to form the government, insisting that the public is fully aware of the situation.
She added, “People are watching everything. The people of Bihar understand how this government was formed. The opposition will continue its fight for farmers’ rights and will not allow the government to evade accountability.”
Rabri Devi’s comments have intensified the political climate in the state, with the ruling coalition and opposition clashing over governance, farmers’ welfare, and the legitimacy of the upcoming 2025 assembly elections.
It is noteworthy that in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, the RJD secured only 25 seats, a significant drop from the 75 seats it won in the previous election in 2020.
