Dhanbad, February 8: The body of Amit Kumar, a resident of Babudih Khatals in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, has been discovered after he went missing for two days. Kumar, who worked for Punjab National Bank (PNB) in loan recovery, was found dead by police on Sunday. Authorities have arrested a suspect named Vikas Khandelwal in connection with the murder.
According to police reports, Kumar’s body was located in his own home in the Surya Highland Society area, based on information provided by Khandelwal. The police secured the body and initiated a post-mortem examination at the Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College Hospital.
Kumar’s family had filed a missing person report on Friday. They informed the police that an unknown caller had contacted Kumar’s mobile phone, demanding a ransom of 1.5 million rupees and threatening severe consequences if the amount was not paid.
DSP Law and Order Naushad Alam stated that due to the seriousness of the case, an immediate investigation was launched. Police traced Kumar’s mobile phone location, which led them to the Govindpur and Saraiyadela police jurisdictions. Notably, mobile activity was detected for an extended period in the Surya Highland City area.
Under the leadership of Saraiyadela police station chief Manoj Pandey, a special team conducted raids in the area. During questioning, Khandelwal was taken into custody. Under intense interrogation, he confessed to murdering Kumar, leading to the recovery of the body.
Further investigation revealed that there was an ongoing dispute between Khandelwal and Kumar regarding a loan settlement of approximately 10 million rupees. Police believe this disagreement was the motive behind the murder.
Family members reported that Kumar left home around 11 AM on Friday, stating he would be away for a while. His mobile phone went silent around 2 PM, raising concerns among his family. Following the ransom call, they promptly notified the police.
Currently, police are conducting thorough interrogations with the suspect and exploring other aspects related to the murder case. They are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in the crime.
