Modi Returns from Malaysia After Productive Business Talks

Kuala Lumpur, February 8: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to India after a two-day visit to Malaysia. During his trip, he engaged in discussions with four prominent business leaders from the country. Vincent Tan Chee Yiun, the founder of Berjaya Corporation, praised PM Modi‘s leadership extensively.

After meeting with PM Modi, Tan described him as a great and approachable leader who has significantly strengthened India’s economy. He shared insights from their conversation and expressed his eagerness to visit India soon. Tan highlighted Berjaya’s operations in luxury resorts worldwide and discussed potential ventures in sanitary landfill and waste management in New Delhi and Goa.

“I believe that Prime Minister Modi has done an excellent job. He is a remarkable leader who has made India more economically successful and developed. I was very impressed by him. Although our conversation was brief, it was meaningful and warm. He seems like a very cordial person, and I plan to visit India soon,” Tan stated.

He further mentioned, “Our group has developed a luxury resort similar to Four Seasons in Japan and is considering one in Iceland. We are looking into opportunities in New Delhi and Goa, particularly in sanitary landfill waste management.”

Additionally, Amirul Faisal Wan Zahier, Managing Director of Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, commented, “It was a fantastic meeting. I must say that the Prime Minister has a clear vision for how he wants to shape India. We discussed infrastructure development, technology, and innovations, and how we can collaborate not only within Khazanah but also across our portfolio companies.”

He noted that significant economic changes have occurred since 2014. “India is a fantastic place for investment, and we are considering doubling our exposure over the next five years,” he added.

Faisal Wan Zahier emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of India’s young population. “We discussed how to improve infrastructure and housing to create good job opportunities. These are the areas we focused on to see how we can bring in real investments.”

Furthermore, PM Modi encouraged Malaysian businesses to explore opportunities in India, particularly in sectors like infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technology, semiconductors, AI, and healthcare.

During his visit, PM Modi met with Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Chairman and Group CEO of Petronas, Vincent Tan Chee Yiun, Founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, Amirul Faisal Wan Zahier, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and Dato’ Pua Khein-Seng, Founder of Phison Electronics.
