Imphal, February 6: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated on Thursday that maintaining law and order remains the government’s top priority as efforts continue to restore normalcy and ensure public safety across the state.
Addressing the first session of the state assembly this year, the Governor highlighted that Manipur is making steady progress towards peace and stability through coordinated efforts from both central and state governments, security forces, civil administration, and community organizations.
Bhalla expressed gratitude for the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in restoring peace and normalcy in the state. He noted significant improvements in the overall law and order situation due to intelligence-based operations, regional control, and coordinated cordon and search operations in sensitive districts.
He informed the assembly that an integrated security framework has been strengthened through regular coordination at both headquarters and district levels. Bhalla, a former central home secretary, reported that a total of 272 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in sensitive areas, critical installations, highways, and agricultural regions, in collaboration with state police, Assam Rifles, and army units.
To combat criminal activities and restore public trust, joint mobile teams, special operations groups, and anti-extortion units have been established in the districts.
The Governor emphasized that the recovery of illegal weapons is crucial for restoring normalcy, with 7,313 weapons, 83,512 rounds of ammunition, and 5,195 explosives seized to date.
He noted that the voluntary surrender of 1,078 weapons at the beginning of 2025 reflects the growing public confidence in the peace process. Additionally, 549 aggressive bunkers located in hilly and valley areas have been destroyed, significantly contributing to the reduction of violence.
Bhalla also mentioned that anti-extortion units have been set up at the state and district levels to address extortion that disrupts the economic system, along with a 24-hour helpline, resulting in over 924 arrests.
