La Nucia, February 7: Twelve Indian boxers, including eight women and four men, will compete for gold medals on the final day of the Boxam Elite International 2026.
Leading the men’s team is Sachin (60 kg), who continued his impressive form with another remarkable victory over England’s Jack Dryden. In the women’s category, Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) secured her place in the finals with a unanimous win against Wales’ Rosie Acless.
The Boxam Elite 2026, held in La Nucia, features over 200 boxers from 20 countries. Among them, 12 Indian athletes will be seen in the finals. Notably, the elite women’s 54 kg final will feature two Indian competitors.
Kazakhstan ranks second, with 11 athletes competing for gold medals. Ukraine has five finalists, while the host nation, Spain, has four.
In the men’s competition, India added more finalists with outstanding performances from Deepak (70 kg), Akash (75 kg), and Ankush (80 kg). Deepak delivered one of the session’s highlights by winning against Kazakhstan’s World Boxing Cup silver medalist Nurbek Mursal in the first round via RSC. Akash and Ankush also secured hard-fought victories against their Kazakh opponents to clinch spots in the gold medal matches on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Indian women continued their strong performance with impressive semifinal victories across various divisions. The highlight was in the 54 kg category, where Preeti and Poonam will face off for the title.
Additionally, Manju Rani (48 kg), Neetu (51 kg), Priya (60 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), and Naina (80 kg) all advanced to the finals with remarkable wins.
Several Indian boxers reached the podium by winning bronze medals after losing in the semifinal stage, including Pranjal Yadav (65 kg), Kajal (65 kg), Sanamacha Chanu (75 kg), and Mankirat Kaur (80+ kg) in the women’s competition. In the men’s draw, Jadumani Singh (55 kg), Mohammad Husam Uddin (60 kg), and Hitesh Gulia (70 kg) also earned bronze medals.
