Elderly Woman Kidnapped with Bed for Silver Jewelry in Rajasthan

Jaipur, February 6: A shocking incident has emerged from Kothiya village in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. Thieves kidnapped a 90-year-old woman along with her bed to steal 1.5 kilograms of silver jewelry.

The incident took place in Kothiya village, where the criminals abducted the elderly woman, tied her hands and feet, and abandoned her in a field before fleeing the scene.

This event comes on the heels of a brutal murder of a woman in Kodai village, Sawai Madhopur district, also linked to silver jewelry theft. This has raised serious concerns about the safety of elderly women in rural areas.

According to police and officials, the Bhilwara incident occurred on Wednesday night when the thieves broke into the home of former village head Nathi Devi Mali with the intent to steal. Before committing the crime, they locked other family members in their rooms, effectively taking them hostage.

At the time of the incident, Nathi Devi’s mother-in-law, Chhoti Devi, was sleeping on her bed in the veranda. Upon seeing her silver jewelry, the thieves gagged her and took her, bed and all, to a nearby field, where they bound her hands and feet.

Meanwhile, other family members woke up to find their rooms locked from the outside. They raised an alarm, prompting villagers to arrive and break the locks. When Chhoti Devi was not found in the house, a search was immediately initiated.

Shortly thereafter, the elderly woman was discovered helpless in the field, while the thieves had already escaped. Thanks to the swift actions of the family and villagers, the criminals were unable to steal the silver jewelry.

The police were notified and arrived at the scene, launching a search operation to apprehend the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities believe that rising silver prices have led to an increase in crimes targeting women with traditional jewelry in rural areas.
