Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Calls Parliament a Temple of Democracy

New Delhi, February 4: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the ruling party of preventing Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi from speaking in Parliament, asserting that Parliament is a temple of democracy revered by every citizen. She emphasized the need for discussions on critical issues within its walls.

In response to uproar in the Lok Sabha regarding Rahul Gandhi’s reference to former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane’s book about the India-China standoff, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated, “Rahul Gandhi is quoting a public source, yet he is being silenced. Meanwhile, members of the ruling party frequently cite magazines and books in Parliament.”

She remarked, “Parliament has always been a platform for discussing vital matters related to China, Pakistan, and foreign policy. This has been our tradition. Both the government and the opposition have openly presented their views. The truth is that the government fears exposure of its realities, which is why they are not allowing the book to be published.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stressed that this issue extends beyond just silencing the opposition leader. It touches on fundamental principles of democracy and the functioning of Parliament. “If someone is expressing their views, what is the problem? They are afraid of what might come to light. The book contains information revealing the responses of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defense Minister, and our top leadership during times of crisis. It reflects the character of their government when the nation is under attack and Chinese soldiers are encroaching on our borders.”

Regarding the suspension of eight opposition members from Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra noted that such suspensions have become commonplace in every session.

Ujjwal Raman Singh described the suspension of MPs as unfortunate, stating that the BJP has set a concerning precedent. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. “Parliament is a place for open exchange of ideas, but the BJP government seeks to suppress the voice of the opposition. The ruling party is evading its responsibilities and does not wish to engage in dialogue within the house. The opposition leader is not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha.”

He added, “This is not about throwing papers; it is about an attempt to silence voices. The government is wasting public funds and wants to prevent any discussion in the country.”
