Congress MP Criticizes PM Modis Economic Claims in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, February 6: Congress MP Nasir Hussain has sharply criticized Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s recent statement regarding a potential unexpected event involving Prime Minister Modi. Birla mentioned that this uncertainty led to the postponement of Modi’s speech scheduled for 5 PM on Wednesday. Hussain claimed he had urged the Prime Minister not to attend due to these concerns.

Hussain asserted that the government had received intelligence reports indicating such risks. He suggested that if similar warnings had been heeded in the past, incidents like the bomb blast near the Red Fort and the tragedy in Pahalgam might have been avoided.

During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Hussain commented on Modi’s speech, describing it as a routine attempt to pat himself on the back. He pointed out the troubling trajectory of the economy, noting the continuous decline of the Indian rupee. “How much lower can the rupee go? I can’t say,” he remarked. He also highlighted the pressure from former President Trump regarding tariff deals, stating that the country is unable to purchase oil from Russia and Iran due to U.S. opposition. As a result, India is forced to buy oil at higher prices.

Hussain criticized the government’s claim of India becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy. He stated that with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, economic growth is expected, but the government fails to provide data on how many jobs have been created in this growing economy.

He mentioned that while the government claims to have lifted 25 crore people out of poverty, millions still rely on free rations. Industrial production, agricultural output, and exports are declining, while imports continue to rise. “The benefits of such a large economy are not reaching poor farmers, yet they continue to celebrate their achievements,” he said. He accused the government of routinely blaming the opposition and noted that opposition leaders are often silenced in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
