Congress Criticizes Government Response to Meghalaya Blast Tragedy

Lucknow, February 6: Congress spokesperson Surendra Singh Rajput has described the Meghalaya coal blast incident as tragic and unfortunate.

In an interview with a news agency on Friday, he alleged that illegal coal mining operations were taking place in the area. He questioned who was protecting these operations and emphasized that the public deserves to know. “It is tragic that 18 lives were lost in this incident. However, the government has remained indifferent throughout this situation,” he stated.

Rajput raised concerns about the lack of assistance provided to the families of the victims. “My direct question is, what has been done to support these families? Has any relief been provided? The government must answer this,” he insisted.

He expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased during this difficult time. Rajput demanded that the government offer a compensation of one crore rupees to the victims’ families to help them lead a better life. He also called for strict action against those responsible for the incident to prevent future occurrences. “This tragedy could not have happened without the protection of those in power; there must be a thorough investigation into the involvement of influential figures,” he added.

Additionally, Congress leader Surendra Rajput criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling him as the most corrupt chief minister. He claimed that Sarma is trying to distract the public from pressing issues by invoking Hindu-Muslim tensions, aiming to regain power in Assam. “This time, his intentions will not succeed,” Rajput asserted.

He further claimed that the people of Assam are accusing Himanta Biswa Sarma of corruption, while he cunningly attempts to divert attention from the core issues by leveraging communal sentiments.

Rajput also responded to Prime Minister Modi’s speech in Parliament, stating that Congress members are no longer attacking the Prime Minister. Instead, the current situation has led BJP and its affiliated organizations to turn against him.
