China Dominates at 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship

Tianjin, February 7: The 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship commenced on February 6 in Tianjin, China, where the Chinese team emerged as the biggest winner of the day, securing three out of six gold medals. The team excelled in both the men’s triple jump and women’s shot put events, clinching the top three positions.

The first gold medal was won in the men’s triple jump. Chinese athlete Su Wen delivered a remarkable performance, achieving a jump of 16.55 meters on his fifth attempt, successfully defending his title. Fellow Chinese athletes Qiao Xinfu and Ma Yinglong followed closely, winning silver and bronze medals with jumps of 16.47 meters and 16.45 meters, respectively.

In the women’s shot put, the Chinese team also dominated the podium. Paris Olympics bronze medalist Song Chayuan struggled initially, failing to exceed 18 meters in her first five throws. However, she redeemed herself with a final throw of 18.36 meters, winning the gold medal by a significant margin. Chang Yue and Sun Yue secured second and third places with throws of 17.11 meters and 15.95 meters, respectively.

Additionally, in the men’s 60-meter final, Teng Xinrui of China sprinted with full force in the final moments, crossing the finish line just 0.01 seconds ahead of Chen Wenpu from Chinese Taipei for an exhilarating victory.
