Bollywood Stars Secure Personality Rights in Court Ruling

Mumbai, February 8: Bollywood celebrities are increasingly turning to the courts to protect their personality rights. Notable figures such as Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Rajinikanth, Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Jackie Shroff have successfully obtained Legal Protection for their rights.

Now, actor Vivek Oberoi has joined this list. The court has issued a clear directive stating that using any material related to the actor without his permission will be considered a crime.

Advocate Sana Rais Khan, representing Oberoi in court, revealed that the Delhi High Court has issued a landmark ruling safeguarding Vivek Anand Oberoi’s personality rights, ensuring the protection of his name, image, and voice. The court ordered the immediate removal of infringing content, making it clear that violators will not escape legal consequences in the future.

According to Advocate Khan, Oberoi, a leading figure in cinema and a social contributor for two decades, has been deliberately targeted. This situation is not merely a legal violation but an attack on his personal life and family, which could adversely affect his family and young children. The actor’s legal victory sets a strong precedent that an individual’s lineage is not public property. Exploiting their personality for clickbait or profit will not be tolerated, and those who do so will face severe legal repercussions.

The complaint filed by the actor noted that several artificial intelligence companies and digital technologies have been using his photos, videos, voice, and branding without permission. Oberoi’s team has previously requested the removal of such content from various online sites, but to no avail, prompting them to seek court intervention.

It is noteworthy that celebrities from both Hindi and South Indian cinema are increasingly relying on the courts to secure their personality rights, as many online platforms exploit their names and images for profit.
