
New Delhi, February 8: Seychelles President Patrick Herminie arrived in Delhi on Sunday. He was welcomed at the airport by Anupriya Patel, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
Before arriving in Delhi, Herminie participated in several business events in Mumbai and Chennai.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared this information on X, along with photographs. He noted, “President Dr. Patrick Herminie has successfully concluded important engagements in Chennai and Mumbai. There, he met with key stakeholders in governance, industry, Coastal Management, and health.”
He further stated, “At the airport, Union Minister Anupriya Patel warmly welcomed him. Seychelles is a vital maritime neighbor of India and plays a significant role in India’s vision for the ocean and its commitment to the Global South.”
According to a statement released by the MEA, Herminie arrived in India on a five-day state visit (February 5-10) at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his time in Delhi, he is expected to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest with PM Modi.
In Mumbai, he met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where both leaders discussed various topics, particularly port-based development, coastal management, and enhancing cooperation between Maharashtra and Seychelles.
CM Fadnavis expressed his delight in a post on X, stating, “Maharashtra welcomes Seychelles! It was a pleasure to host President Dr. Patrick Herminie and his ministers at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. I extended heartfelt wishes to him and the people of Seychelles on the occasion of their 50th anniversary of independence and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles this year!”
He described the discussions with the President as fruitful, saying, “We had excellent conversations on various topics, especially regarding port-based development, coastal management, and improved cooperation between Maharashtra and Seychelles. I also welcome the honorable ministers, including Foreign Minister Barry Faure, Finance Minister Pierre Laporte, Transport Minister Veronique Laporte, and Tourism and Culture Minister Amanda Bernstein.”
On February 6, Herminie participated in the India-Seychelles Business Forum organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Chennai. FICCI issued a statement on X regarding this event.
FICCI stated, “As part of the forum, a special CEO roundtable was also held, where leading Indian industrialists engaged directly with the honorable President and the ministerial delegation from Seychelles.”
