Major Drug and Arms Bust in Amritsar by BSF and Punjab Police

Amritsar, February 8: The Border Security Force (BSF) has conducted a significant operation against cross-border drug and arms trafficking in collaboration with Punjab Police. During this operation in Amritsar, police arrested two individuals along with a cache of heroin and firearms.

Punjab Police Director General (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on the social media platform X that a major success was achieved in combating cross-border drug and arms smuggling in the rural areas of Amritsar.

He reported that the joint operation led by the BSF and police resulted in the seizure of 25 kilograms of heroin, two pistols, and 60 live cartridges. The two arrested suspects are residents of the Ghogha area in rural Amritsar.

DGP Yadav emphasized that Punjab Police remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling the terrorist networks associated with drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free Punjab.

Earlier, on Saturday, the Gurudaspur police achieved a significant breakthrough by dismantling an organized drug trafficking network. Two individuals were arrested, one of whom is from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Amritsar. Police recovered a substantial haul of 11 kilograms of heroin (3 kilograms + 8 kilograms) and ₹5.75 lakh in drug money across two separate NDPS cases.

FIRs have been filed at the Dinanagar and Dorangla police stations under the NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further connections within the network.

Punjab Police is resolutely committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, aiming to ensure a drug-free and safe Punjab.

Previously, on February 4, Punjab Police executed another crucial operation against drug trafficking, uncovering a cross-border smuggling network. Based on intelligence, the Amritsar Counter Intelligence team carried out this operation, resulting in the arrest of four suspects, all reportedly from the village of Daoke in the Garhinda police station area of Amritsar district.
