Faridabad, February 8: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed his condolences on Saturday regarding the tragic incident at the Surajkund Fair, where approximately 12 people were injured.
Saini took to the social media platform ‘X’ to convey his deep sympathies to the family of the deceased. He also stated that necessary instructions have been issued to ensure proper and immediate medical treatment for the injured.
The Chief Minister emphasized, “The Haryana government is fully committed to providing every possible assistance to the injured and their families with utmost urgency and sensitivity.”
In response to the unfortunate event, Haryana Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma remarked, “It is a very tragic incident. On one side, 13 people were seated, and on the other side, there were 13. The Chief Minister, district administration, police, and fair officials express their condolences to the families. Unfortunately, one person has lost their life in this incident.”
According to police reports, around 12 people were injured, one of them seriously, when a swing at the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Fair collapsed on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7 PM due to alleged Mechanical Failure while approximately 15 people were riding the swing. Eyewitnesses and rescue workers claimed that Inspector Jagdish Prasad from Palwal was among those who died.
One spectator described, “The swing fell with a loud crash, creating a cloud of dust, and visitors panicked, thinking it was a terrorist attack.”
Immediately following the incident, the entire fairground was evacuated. District Magistrate Ayush Sinha led the rescue operation alongside other agencies, overseeing the transportation of the injured to hospitals.
Officials from the district administration, police, and the Managing Director of the tourism department also participated in the rescue efforts. An official confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been ordered.
Earlier on Saturday, strong winds caused a gate structure near entrance number 2 to collapse, injuring one visitor, who was taken to B.K. Hospital for treatment. The fair, which opened on January 31, is scheduled to run until February 15.
