Gopalganj, February 7: In a significant operation amid Bihar’s complete liquor ban, Gopalganj police have dealt a severe blow to an interstate liquor smuggling network. During an extensive vehicle inspection at a checkpoint on NH-27, authorities seized approximately 8,900 liters of foreign liquor from a truck.
Two individuals, including the truck driver, have been arrested in connection with this operation. The market value of the confiscated liquor is estimated to be between 6 to 7 million rupees. This action was executed under the directive of Vinay Tiwari, with the Kuchaykot police, led by Darpan Suman, conducting regular vehicle checks on NH-27.
During the inspection, a truck was stopped based on suspicious activity. Upon reviewing the documents and searching the vehicle, a large quantity of foreign liquor cartons was discovered inside.
Initial inquiries revealed that the truck driver is from Rajasthan and that the shipment was intended for distribution within Bihar. Transporting, carrying, and storing liquor is a legal offense in Bihar; however, smugglers continue to devise new methods to supply alcohol.
Sadar SDPO Pranjal stated that swift action was taken upon receiving the information. The truck has been seized, and two individuals are in custody. The police are currently counting the liquor and matching brands, while also initiating investigations into forward and backward linkages to identify others involved in this smuggling racket.
Authorities are now focused on determining where the liquor shipment was loaded and the intended delivery locations within Bihar. They are also examining mobile call details, route maps, and transport documents.
Following this significant seizure, Gopalganj police have made it clear that their campaign against liquor smuggling will continue with increased vigilance. Surveillance at border and highway checkpoints has been intensified to thwart every attempt by smugglers.
This police action serves as a strong message to reinforce the liquor ban law. It remains to be seen how many more names will emerge during the investigation linked to this network.
