New Delhi, February 7: A tragic incident occurred in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi. On Saturday morning, the Jahangirpuri police station received a PCR call reporting that several individuals were found unconscious. A police team quickly arrived at the scene. Inside a closed room in D-Block, two young men were discovered unconscious on a bed. They were promptly transported to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
The deceased have been identified as Musafik Alam (18), son of Yusuf Alam, a resident of D-Block, and Ruksad Alam (30), son of Mujahara, residing at E-754, Jahangirpuri. Initial investigations revealed that both were using a gas-powered momo heater or sigdi to prepare momos the previous night.
They lit the heater and closed the room from the inside before going to sleep. Throughout the night, gas leaked into the room, leading to a depletion of oxygen. When a family member opened the door in the morning, they found both men unconscious. Investigations suggest that their deaths were caused by a carbon monoxide gas incident.
The police summoned a crime team and forensic science laboratory (FSL) team to the scene. A thorough investigation was conducted, revealing no signs of foul play, theft, or disturbance in the room. The incident appears to be entirely accidental. The police have registered a case under legal procedures, and further actions will be taken based on the post-mortem report and FSL’s final opinion.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police have urged the public not to leave gas heaters, sigdis, or any gas-based appliances burning overnight in closed rooms. Such accidents tend to increase during winter. It is essential to ensure proper ventilation in rooms and to turn off all gas appliances before sleeping. A small lapse in caution can lead to significant tragedies.
The police in the northwest district are investigating every aspect of this incident to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the families involved. This tragedy has served as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant about gas safety.
