Tragic Accident in Janakpuri Sparks Political Outcry

New Delhi, February 7: The tragic death of a young motorcyclist who fell into a pothole in Janakpuri has ignited political tensions in the capital. Sanjeev Jha, the Chief Whip of the Aam Aadmi Party, has written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, demanding immediate compensation for the victim’s family and a government job for one of the dependents.

Jha described the incident as a result of government negligence, asserting that merely taking action against officials is insufficient. He emphasized that providing real relief to the affected family is a moral and humanitarian responsibility of the government. In his letter, he noted that the young man lost his life after falling into a pothole created by the Delhi Jal Board’s ongoing work in Janakpuri, a tragedy that has shaken the entire city. This incident not only highlights administrative negligence but also underscores the severe consequences of neglecting basic safety measures for citizens.

He pointed out that while information about investigations and actions by relevant departments has surfaced, it does little to alleviate the family’s suffering. The AAP legislator mentioned that the victim’s family has lost their sole breadwinner and is now facing a serious financial crisis. In such circumstances, actions like investigations or suspensions do not provide any tangible solutions for the grieving family.

Sanjeev Jha urged the government to show sensitivity by providing immediate financial compensation and offering a government job to a qualified family member, enabling them to regain their footing. He referenced the principle of equality, stating that the Delhi government had swiftly announced compensation and a job for a family member in a recent case involving the drowning of a BJP worker in the Yamuna River.

He questioned why a similar humanitarian approach is not being extended to the family affected by the Janakpuri incident. In closing his letter, Jha urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the victim’s family receives financial compensation without delay and that a government job is announced for one of the dependents. He argued that such actions would not only help the family rebuild their lives but also enhance the government’s image as just and compassionate in the eyes of the public.
