Call for Support for Brave Anganwadi Worker’s Family in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, February 7: Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has urged current Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to provide financial assistance to the family of Kanchanbai Meghwal, an Anganwadi worker who lost her life while saving 20 children from a bee attack in Neemuch district.

In a letter addressed to CM Yadav, Singh highlighted Kanchanbai’s extraordinary courage and dedication. The 40-year-old resident of Ranapur village sacrificed her life to protect innocent children, a testament to her maternal instincts and commitment to duty. This tragic incident has deeply shaken the entire state.

Kanchanbai bravely shielded children playing in the Anganwadi from the swarm of bees. Using available mats, tarpaulins, and ultimately her own saree, she managed to save over 20 families from disaster. Unfortunately, she succumbed to severe injuries from the bees’ venom while being transported to the hospital.

Singh noted that Kanchanbai was the president of the Jai Mata Di Self-Help Group and regularly prepared meals for the children at the Anganwadi. She was the sole breadwinner for her family, as her husband, Shivlal Meghwal, has been bedridden due to paralysis since 2022. The family belongs to the Scheduled Caste community and lives below the poverty line.

The former Chief Minister requested that CM Yadav treat this matter with utmost sensitivity and provide appropriate support to Kanchanbai’s family from the government. He proposed that the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund allocate ₹10 lakh, the Sambal scheme provide ₹4 lakh, the Prime Minister’s Security Insurance Scheme offer ₹2 lakh, and the National Family Benefit Scheme grant ₹20,000. Additionally, he urged that Kanchanbai’s son, Ravi Meghwal, be provided housing under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme and be appointed to a government position based on his educational qualifications to support the family.
