New Delhi, February 7: The tragic death of a biker in Janakpuri, Delhi, has ignited a heated debate regarding the city’s deteriorating road conditions. Reports indicate that the 25-year-old man fell into a large pothole on Joginder Singh Marg, which is located near a minister’s residence. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the main opposition party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Opposition leader in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, Ankush Narang, has held the government accountable for the accident. Speaking to reporters, he stated, “A young man was returning home from work when he fell into a massive pothole created by the Delhi Jal Board, right outside a minister’s house. His family searched for him all night and even approached the police, but not a single police station filed a missing person’s report. The government claims that we promptly register such reports, but the police department is under the central government.”
He further criticized the lack of safety measures around the pothole, saying, “Ashish Sood is a minister in Delhi, yet there were no barricades, flags, or lights near the pothole. This is the state of the minister’s area. Who is responsible for this young man’s death? He was the breadwinner for his family, and today, the government should feel ashamed.”
Narang also pointed out the broader issue of road safety in Delhi, stating, “Despite having a four-engine government led by the BJP, the situation has deteriorated to the point where all roads are riddled with potholes. Conditions have worsened since the BJP took power. The party cannot evade responsibility. The area has a BJP councilor, an MLA, and an MP, yet such an accident occurs.”
Earlier, Narang took to social media platform X to express his outrage, writing, “A young biker was trapped in a deep pothole all night and died. This is not just an accident; it is murder by the system. The Delhi government has learned nothing from the Noida incident. Daily false claims and zero ground reality. The government must be held accountable for the deplorable state of Delhi’s roads.”
