Moscow, February 6: Russian Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev was the target of a deadly attack in northwest Moscow and has been hospitalized for treatment. This information was confirmed by Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, multiple gunshots were fired at the general. Petrenko stated, “The Russian Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under Article 30 and 105 (attempted murder), as well as Article 222 (illegal arms trafficking) regarding the attack on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev in northwest Moscow.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that on February 6, 2026, an unidentified assailant shot at the general from a residential building adjacent to the Volokolamskoye Highway and fled the scene. Petrenko added, “The victim has been taken to a hospital in the city.”
Investigators and forensic experts from the Moscow Investigative Committee are currently working at the crime scene, reviewing CCTV footage, and interviewing witnesses. The spokesperson further noted, “An investigation and search operation is underway to identify those involved in the crime.”
Petrenko did not disclose any potential suspects behind the attack. Alexeyev has served as the first deputy head of Russia’s military intelligence since 2011.
Since the onset of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, several high-ranking military officials have been killed. Notably, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Army Operational Training Directorate, was killed in a car bomb explosion on December 22, 2025, with explosives planted in his vehicle.
Earlier, on April 25, 2025, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Yaroslavovich Moskalik was also killed in a car bomb blast in the Balashikha area near Moscow. He was serving as the deputy chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian General Staff.
