Local Crafts Shine at Prayagrajs Magh Mela

Prayagraj, February 4: The impact of the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative is clearly visible at the Magh Mela held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Local artisans and self-help groups have showcased their products prominently, receiving tremendous appreciation from both devotees and tourists.

Handcrafted items, khadi products, clay pots, and other indigenous goods created by rural artisans are attracting significant attention. This initiative not only strengthens the vision of a self-reliant India but also provides new support to the livelihoods of traditional industries and local craftsmen.

Visitors shopping at the fair have noted that products made from Local Crafts are not only of superior quality but also reflect the essence of Indian culture and tradition. Many are prioritizing indigenous products over foreign goods. Vendors believe that government policies and initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ have provided extensive encouragement to artisans, directly benefiting them at the Magh Mela.

Rukhsana, a female vendor at the fair, shared with a news agency that business is thriving this time, with earnings significantly better than before. She mentioned that people are showing a keen interest in local handicrafts. According to Rukhsana, the government’s ‘One District, One Product’ scheme has also raised awareness about regional products, prompting customers to opt for indigenous goods.

Customer Himanshu Tiwari remarked that most items available at the fair are of high quality. He stated that adopting domestically made products is a better choice than purchasing foreign goods. Himanshu noted that the promotion of ‘Vocal for Local’ by the government is directly benefiting local artists and craftsmen. He also mentioned an increase in the number of stalls at this year’s Magh Mela, providing buyers with more options and creating a new market for local products.

The Magh Mela in Prayagraj has become not only a center of religious and cultural faith but also a robust platform for local industries, artisans, and self-help groups, where indigenous products are gaining recognition and respect.
