New Delhi, February 19: Yorkshire County Cricket Club has signed Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson as an overseas player for the early phase of the 2026 County Championship season.
The 29-year-old pacer will strengthen Yorkshire’s bowling attack in the initial block of red-ball matches, aiming to make a strong start to the season. Richardson will reunite with his Western Australia teammates Sam Whiteman and AJ Tye, who are also part of the county’s overseas squad for the upcoming campaign.
Richardson brings a wealth of international and domestic experience, having represented Australia in four Test matches, including his recent appearance in the Boxing Day Ashes Test.
His impressive Test performance came during the 2021 Ashes series, where he claimed five wickets for 42 runs at the Adelaide Oval. Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, Richardson has also taken 122 wickets at an average of 20 in first-class cricket.
Expressing his excitement about joining Yorkshire, Richardson stated, “I’m really happy to be joining Yorkshire. The club and Headingley have a rich history, so playing red-ball cricket here for the first time is a big deal. After speaking with the coaches, I have a good understanding of what the group wants to achieve this year, and I’m ready to get started.”
Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, Gavin Hamilton, welcomed the signing and discussed Richardson’s potential impact.
In a statement, he said, “Jhye is a fantastic bowler who has performed exceptionally well. He will genuinely support the team during that crucial early part of the season. His skills are well-suited to English conditions. Jhye’s arrival is a significant boost for us.”
