Mumbai, February 8: Sergio Gore, the US Ambassador to India, met with ICC President Jay Shah during the T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and the USA at Wankhede Stadium.
Following their meeting, Gore expressed his excitement on X, stating, “It was great to meet ICC President Jay Shah at the T20 World Cup today. We discussed the rapid growth of cricket in the USA, supported by our world-class infrastructure, talent, and amazing fans.”
Gore also had the opportunity to meet business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani. Sharing a photo with the couple on X, he remarked, “It was wonderful to see my friends Mukesh and Nita Ambani during the India vs. USA match at the T20 World Cup.”
Additionally, Gore posted a picture with Jay Shah and the American team, expressing pride in the American cricket team. He noted, “Tonight’s match in Mumbai was incredibly exciting.”
Cricket is gaining rapid popularity in the USA. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, the USA made headlines by defeating Pakistan, marking a significant moment in world cricket.
In terms of match performance, the Indian team, batting first after losing the toss, had a disappointing outing. Apart from captain Suryakumar Yadav, no other batsman could make a significant contribution. Yadav, batting at number four, scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes, leading India to a total of 161 runs.
The USA team managed to score only 132 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, resulting in a 29-run defeat. For India, Mohammad Siraj took 3 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel claimed 2 wickets each. Varun Chakravarthy also contributed with 1 wicket. Suryakumar Yadav was named Player of the Match.
