U.S. Tariff Cuts to Boost Indias MSME and Manufacturing Sectors

Udaipur, February 4: Gaurav Vallabh, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has hailed the recent U.S. tariff reductions as a significant achievement for India‘s economy. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump for facilitating this agreement.

Vallabh stated that the reduction of U.S. tariffs from 25% to 18% will greatly benefit India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and manufacturing sector.

In an interview with a news agency, he noted that industries related to textiles, leather, gems and jewelry, heavy engineering, and chemical products will receive direct advantages from this decision.

He emphasized that, as President Trump himself acknowledged, his personal rapport with Prime Minister Modi is now translating into economic growth for India. As an Indian, Vallabh expressed his appreciation for how effectively both leaders managed this deal.

Vallabh pointed out that India is now subject to the lowest tariff rates in trade with the U.S. Excluding American allies like Europe, Japan, and South Korea, India faces only an 18% tariff, which is lower compared to other competing nations.

He provided examples, stating that in the textile sector, where India competes with Bangladesh, the latter faces higher tariffs than India. Similarly, in the leather products and handicrafts sectors, where India competes with Vietnam and Thailand, those countries face tariffs ranging from 20% to 21%, while India is subjected to just 18%.

Vallabh concluded that this clearly indicates that the U.S. has prioritized India in its trade policies, making the American market more accessible for Indian products than ever before.
