TMC Supporters Disrupt Voter List Hearing in West Bengal

Kolkata, February 7: A video has gone viral showing a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters causing a ruckus during a session addressing claims and objections on the draft voter list in Bhaduaria, located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari shared the video on his official social media account, asserting that the ruling party’s workers are engaging in rampant misconduct under the guidance of local leaders.

Adhikari stated, “First, it happened in Farakka, Murshidabad. Then, similar incidents occurred in Chakulia, Uttar Dinajpur. Now, it’s Bhaduaria’s turn in North 24 Parganas. The deteriorating law and order situation in the state has been evident for a long time. However, the state government has deliberately allowed this situation to worsen under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) environment, enabling TMC leaders and workers to include fake voters in the voter list and protect their illegal activities.”

Since the hearings on claims and objections regarding the draft voter list began, there have been frequent disruptions during the sessions, often led by TMC party leaders and legislators.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has repeatedly warned the state government to ensure adequate police security at hearing centers to prevent such disruptions.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar raised this issue during discussions with TMC delegations, including the last meeting on February 2, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

During that meeting, the CEC clearly stated to the delegation led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the ECI would not tolerate any form of misconduct aimed at disrupting the ongoing Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal.
