Agartala, February 8: Tripura police swiftly arrested three women allegedly involved in a brutal attack on a six-year-old girl in the Paresh Colony of West Tripura district on Saturday. Authorities confirmed the arrests.
According to a police officer, a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The investigation revealed that the three women had reportedly tied up the girl and subjected her to severe physical torture earlier this week. They suspected that the girl had stolen 20 rupees from a neighbor’s house.
Following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media, outrage spread throughout the state.
The police officer noted that the victim was living in vulnerable conditions. Her mother had previously eloped with another person, leaving the girl in the care of her father, who works as a daily laborer.
Taking the incident seriously, the Tripura State Commission for Protection of Child Rights also filed a formal complaint against the accused at the local police station, demanding stringent action.
Senior police officials stated that the arrested women are being interrogated and that further investigations are ongoing.
Authorities assured that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of children.
The arrested women have been identified as Dipali Banik (41), Kajali Sarkar (50), and Manti Biswas (35).
Police presented the three women in a local court and sought their police remand.
A police spokesperson emphasized that Tripura police uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against children and vulnerable groups.
