Tensions Rise in Karnataka Congress Over Leadership Comments

Davanagere, February 7: Basavaraj V. Shivganga, a loyalist of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and MLA from Channagiri, stated that remarks made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah‘s son and Congress MLC Yatindra Siddaramaiah regarding leadership should not be taken seriously. This statement could escalate internal strife within the Karnataka Congress.

The situation is likely to heighten tensions between the factions of Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Notably, Yatindra Siddaramaiah remarked that the party high command is not considering attempts to change the Chief Minister and that his father will complete his full term. This comment was a response to Basavaraj’s earlier statement, which called for the high command to intervene and resolve ongoing leadership issues in the state.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Basavaraj emphasized that his statements should be taken seriously, as his vote matters in selecting the Chief Ministerial candidate, unlike Yatindra, who, as an MLC, does not have such a role.

He sarcastically questioned why the media pays attention to Yatindra’s statements when he lacks a vote.

Basavaraj accused Yatindra of repeatedly asserting that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will remain in office for five years.

He also mentioned that the party high command has acknowledged Yatindra’s statements, with prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi involved in the party. He urged the party to clarify whether there is any arrangement for power-sharing.
