Mumbai, February 10: The magic of Sunny Deol’s film ‘Border 2‘ continues to enchant audiences at the box office. Meanwhile, the makers have announced the release date for his highly anticipated film ‘Lahore 1947’.
‘Lahore 1947’ is scheduled to hit theaters on August 13. This film marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, and producer Aamir Khan. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition, presenting one of history’s most painful chapters in a unique manner.
Aamir Khan revealed that this script was a favorite of the late actor Dharmendra. He expressed, “This was one of Dharm Ji’s (Dharmendra) favorite scripts. I am very happy that this film will be released in that spirit and receive his love.”
The upcoming film draws inspiration from Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai’. The play focuses on communal violence and the fractured relationships caused by displacement, rather than the larger politics of partition. The story revolves around a Hindu family forced to flee Lahore for India, who discover a mansion left behind by a Muslim family, only to find an elderly Muslim woman still residing there.
As the narrative unfolds during the tumultuous days of partition, it raises profound questions about identity, loss, and moral responsibility. Unlike typical patriotic tales, the film sheds light on the lasting scars of partition, empathy, and shared pain. It promises to be an emotional and serious period drama.
Sunny Deol stars in the lead role, joined by Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol in significant roles. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.
