Jammu, February 8: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) made significant decisions on Sunday aimed at enhancing facilities for pilgrims and promoting overall development in the local area. The goal is to position the Vaishno Devi shrine and its surroundings among the most vibrant and globally recognized spiritual destinations in India, while also boosting employment, infrastructure, and community welfare.
These decisions were made during a board meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also serves as the board’s president.
The meeting approved the establishment of an international museum dedicated to the spiritual heritage of Maa Shakti. Additionally, a state-of-the-art sound and light show inspired by global pilgrimage sites and a documentary on the Vaishno Devi shrine were also greenlit. The ‘Shakti Museum’ will be developed in the Natali area of Katra in collaboration with the Asian Heritage Foundation, marking it as a unique religious, educational, and cultural center.
The Shrine Board also decided to fill vacant positions across various departments, with recruitment processes to commence soon. Furthermore, the establishment of free NEET coaching centers for local youth was approved.
In line with directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), a phased plan for the rehabilitation of service providers on the travel route, particularly pony operators, was also decided upon.
To enhance the overall pilgrimage experience and increase visitor numbers, a committee has been formed. Emphasizing inclusive development, the board resolved to prioritize purchases from self-help groups, women, and local young entrepreneurs, ensuring that offerings are sourced locally to strengthen the regional economy.
Highlighting Katra’s global recognition due to the Vaishno Devi shrine, the board committed to directly contributing to the city’s overall development. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated, “The board is dedicated to transforming Katra into a clean, vibrant city equipped with modern infrastructure, benefiting both residents and the millions of pilgrims who visit each year.”
Additionally, the board decided to lead the development of sports in the Jammu region to promote both spiritual growth and the health and talent of the youth.
To ensure the safety of pilgrims, the insurance coverage amount has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per pilgrim. The meeting also reviewed the progress of major infrastructure projects, including the widening of travel routes and the construction of new buildings and temples, emphasizing timely implementation.
All members of the Shrine Board and senior officials were present at the meeting.
