Mumbai, February 7: The Bollywood and music industry is witnessing a significant shift in perspectives regarding love, relationships, and the role of women. In earlier songs, women were often portrayed as waiting, sacrificing, and deeply emotional. However, today’s artists are emerging with fresh ideas and newfound confidence.
A strong reflection of this changing era can be seen in playback singer Shalmali Kholgade’s new song, “Impression.” Through this track, Shalmali has ventured into a musical experiment where the woman takes charge of the direction of her relationship.
Known for memorable songs like “Pareshan,” “Balam Pichkari,” and “Lat Lag Gayi,” Shalmali expressed her thoughts on “Impression,” stating, “I move forward with my ideas and expressions. This song reflects modern relationships, where attraction is not defined by appearances or grand promises but is born from confidence, balance, and being comfortable in oneself. This concept is what the song aims to convey.”
In the music video, Shalmali showcases her dancing skills.
She further added, “‘Impression’ is very special to me because it allows me to express myself through both music and dance. As an artist, this has been a very fulfilling experience. In the past, songs often assigned emotional roles to women, where waiting, longing, and sacrifice were seen as synonymous with love. However, today’s reality is much broader.”
Shalmali emphasized, “Women are no longer just waiting for circumstances to change; they make decisions, communicate through their eyes, and determine the emotional dynamics of their relationships. ‘Impression’ brings this thought to the forefront.”
