Mumbai, February 4: Following a Shooting Incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai Police and the crime branch have ramped up security measures. The shooting, attributed to the Bishnoi Gang, has prompted an increase in police presence around Shetty’s home. Initially, only two officers were stationed there, but additional personnel have now been deployed.
Extra security forces have been assigned to Shetty’s personal safety. Investigations by the crime branch revealed that the shooter used a sophisticated country-made weapon, firing five bullets of 7.62 mm caliber. Authorities are currently determining whether these bullets were of the 7.62×51 NATO or 7.62×39 mm type, commonly used in rifles and machine guns, known for their high velocity and deep impact.
Reports indicate that after the shooting, the assailant fled on a scooter for a short distance before attempting to hire an auto-rickshaw to Kalyan, which the first driver refused. A second driver eventually dropped him near Ville Parle railway station. Due to local train services being suspended, the shooter tried to leave Mumbai using private transport. Statements from both auto drivers have been recorded by the police.
According to the crime branch, arrested suspects Siddharth Yenpure and Swapnil Sakhat, who delivered the scooter from Pune to Mumbai, received a payment of ₹10,000. This amount was provided by mastermind Shubham Lonkar to accomplice Samarth Pomaji, who paid them after their delivery. The police are investigating the total amount disbursed by the Bishnoi gang for the entire operation, including examining the suspects’ bank transactions.
Police have questioned Rohit Shetty regarding any threats he may have received from individuals or gangs. He confirmed that he had not received any threats via messages, calls, voice notes, or emails. Investigators have also uncovered that other members of the Bishnoi gang were present with the shooter at the time of the incident, and efforts to identify them are ongoing.
An official stated that the main shooter has been identified, and teams are actively working to apprehend him. So far, over a dozen statements have been recorded in connection with the case.
