
Noida, March 3: The DP World PGTI’s 72nd league has intensified as Rajasthan Regal takes a slight lead in the finals race. The tournament, held at the Classic Golf and Country Club in Nuh, has four teams vying for a spot in the finals.
After the fourth round, Rajasthan Regal stands at the top with 39 points, while UP Prometheans follow closely with 35 points. Both teams started the day with 32 points, but Rajasthan managed to pull ahead by the end of the day’s play. The upcoming final league match between these two teams promises to be thrilling.
Nava Raipur and Charminar Champions are also in contention for the finals, each with 31 points, just four points behind UP Prometheans.
Rajasthan’s players delivered strong performances. The duo of Chikaranappa S. and Dhruv Shyoran managed to secure a crucial match draw. Honey Baisoya showcased exceptional skill, scoring six birdies and one eagle. Alongside captain Amardeep Singh Malik, they defeated their opponents, Prabhakaran and Michelle Ortolani, with a score of 4 and 3. Captain Ajitesh Sandhu also won his singles match, emphasizing that the team must improve their performance in the next match to secure a finals spot.
Conversely, UP Prometheans faced unexpected challenges against Mumbai Aces, adding only three points to their tally. Captain Bhattacharya performed well with a long birdie putt but acknowledged the need for better play against Rajasthan.
Nava Raipur and Charminar Champions, both with 31 points, remain in the finals race. Anant Singh Ahlawat from Nava Raipur remains an undefeated player.
In the points table, Mumbai Aces sit fifth with 24 points, while Kolkata Classics are at the bottom with 11 points. The final round of the league phase will be played on Tuesday, determining which two teams will advance to the finals.
